Inspired by a 2011 Venice Art Center exhibit of Florida Highwaymen landscape artists, Gary began teaching himself to paint in 2016, at age 70. More recently, he has begun to use computer tools to enhance digital photographs and scanned images. Having applied these tools to restore and preserve photos drawn from albums and scrapbooks passed on by his late mother, a portrait artist herself, friends and neighbors now often ask him to transform their favorite snapshots of friends and family members, pets, homes, events, floral arrangements, travel venues – anything of significance in their lives –  into beautiful, framed artwork. The results can be realistic or digitally enhanced to look like paintings. All are meant to capture and preserve treasured memories.
