Carol McGill

Born in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., and raised on a farm in Culpeper, Virginia, Carol McGill earned her B.A. in Studio Art from Mary Washington College. She has lived throughout the South, drawing inspiration from the diverse landscapes of Virginia, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, South Carolina, and Florida.

Knowing at age 16 that she wanted to be an artist, Carol has spent a lifetime pursuing that dream. Her passion is plein air painting, where she captures the beauty of God’s creation through expressive color, light, texture, and palette knife techniques. She describes her creative process as “Painting in the Spirit,” continually learning from nature and the ever-changing elements.

Carol has received numerous awards and has exhibited extensively, including Best in Show at the 2008 Piccolo Spoleto Festival, a Merit Award at the Venice Art Center (2024), and multiple one-woman shows in Florida and South Carolina. She has also been juried into ArtFields and the Carmel Plein Air Arts Festival.

An accomplished instructor, Carol teaches workshops in plein air painting, abstraction, and figure drawing. Her work is featured in galleries and private collections across the United States and is part of permanent collections in public buildings, hospitals, schools, and the Charleston Mayor’s Office.
