Description

If you want to loosen up, this is the class for you. We will develop eye-catching abstract paintings using watercolor and gouache. You will learn how to create great depth and interest by layering both transparent and semi-opaque paint.

Supply List:

– Fluid watercolor pad 16 x 16 hot press (available on Amazon) or any hot press paper you may have on hand.

– Assorted brushes: I prefer ½ – 1” flat brushes. Cheap brushes are fine for this technique. You can get a whole set of 6-8 brushes at Michaels for under $12.

– A few assorted watercolors you like to use. I don’t care if you only have 3 or 4 to start with. Make sure they are TUBES of paint rather than watercolor cakes. If you can afford to purchase PROFESSIONAL GRADE paint rather than Student Grade, your colors will be more intense.

I use mostly Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors. My favorites are: Paynes Gray, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Electric Blue, Andrews Turquoise, Ultramarine Turquoise, Sap Green, Phthalo Yellow Green, Quinacridone Violet, Cadmium Red, Pytrol Orange, and Cadmium Yellow Deep. This is just for information only.

– rags for blotting (old tee shirts make good rags)

– fine point black Pilot marker pen

– Titanium white for making our own gouache

– paper or plastic plates or butchers tray to mix paint

OPTIONAL ITEMS
– Oil pastels for additional mark making
– Wax paper for creating textures
