Description

In the first week, learn layering techniques in the cool colors using a variety of painting tools. In the second week, learn acrylic washes in warm colors using tissue paper texture for organic results. In the third week, learn texture painting techniques using plaster compounds as underlayment. In the fourth week, learn to inlay work into texture using collectables to achieve a 3D effect.

Please bring an assortment of canvasses from 16×20 to 24×36 and a couple of canvas boards.
We will be painting primarily with acrylic paints and water-soluble materials.
Bring your assortment of acrylic paints (artist’s acrylic paints, house paints or paint samples as
long as they are colorful). Color choice is up to you but bring at least the primary colors, a large
tube of white and a small tube of black. First class we are painting primarily in hues of blue and
green, second class in hues of reds and yellows
Also bring the following items if you can.
– Paint brushes can be your artist paint brushes as well as your house paint brushes or sponge
brushes (large brushes are preferred)
– palette knives or small trowels, smooth or riveted
– a plastic ruler or old charge card
– spray water bottle
– Mod Podge and tissue paper, white or colored for 2nd class
– a small paint roller, foam roller is ok
– bring your recycled containers (for water and mixing paints) and a gallon water jug, some
small containers with lids are helpful as well
– scissors, pencil
– rags or a roll of paper towels
– Small tub of joint compound for 3rd and 4th class
– Poly-acrylic finish medium (water soluble)
– some newspaper, cardboard for rolling out paint, textured fabric such as coarse jute, a
recycled onion skin bag, some other texture such as doilies; a little sand if you want.
Anything you might want to add to your painting for texture such as seed beads or some
natural objects or…..? Be willing to share.
Wear older clothing and bring cloves if you don’t want to get your hands dirty.
If you bring a recycled canvas be sure to apply gesso prior to the workshop.
