Supply List:
Referencing ideas from YOUR OWN photographs is preferred.  An image you have been longing to learn the FUNdamentals of painting it. An Old Master Reference books of one of your favorite artists is always nice to have on hand.
Small Sketchbook (pocket size to 5×7″), 2B graphite pencil, Kneaded eraser, Painting surface of choice, recommending no larger than 11×14″.  Options: Gessoed Watercolor paper, Canvas Panel, Stretched Canvas, Gesso board, Ampersand panel; plus one small surface of choice approximately 5×7″, Brushes (Karen Ann’s favorite Rosemary & Co. Brushes) sizes: 1 Liner/Rigger, long flats 0,2,4,6, 8, 10 (if ordering from website please let them know that I sent you.)  Ivory’s, Evergreen’s or Red Dot One Strokes absolutely LOVE and they come in sizes 1/8,1/4,1/2,3/8,3/4,1″ are a few good economical option) Rosemaryandco.com, Oil Paints: Brand of choice M. Graham & Co. which are a walnut oil base, or your favorite.  I do recommend professional grade over student grade if possible.  I hate making a LONG supply list.  Limiting the palette here to basically a warm and cool of the primary colors which is red, yellow and blue; plus white and transparent red oxide. At the very least Red, Yellow, Blue, White and Transparent Red Oxide. Sample of colors: Cadmium Red, Alizarin Red; Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Titanium White, Transparent Red Oxide.  If you would like to add to these primary colors, Pthalo Blue, Pthalo Green, Quinacridone Red, Cobalt Blue.  There are an endless list of color options.  Technically with the primary colors you can learn to mix them all.  Start with the basics and work up from there, but in those basics, if at all possible purchase the professional grade vs the student grade. ORDERLESS MINERAL SPIRITS: only orderless is allowed in class.  Gamsol is the recommended.
Walnut Oil (Artist Grade is an option too), Painting Palette:  Freezer wrap is a great option inside a sealable oblong Tupperware type container.  Or a Wooden hand held. A long time favorite: ‘Masterson Sta-Wet Palette Seal’ comes with a blue lid with a white plastic bottom that you can put freezer wrap paper into, or buy additionally the palette paper that they also make.  The latter here the long term option.
